: Printed on border: "Is only an inch and three quarters in length; the extent of its wings is seven inches; its ears are above an inch long, very thin, and almost transparent; within each of them there is a membrane, resembling an ear, which may possibly serve as a valve to defend the organs of hearing during its inactive state."
