: Printed on border: "The two handsome brooches which occupy the upper line have special characteristics, their pattern is peculiar, they are known as the 'Hunsterstan Brooches,' and are copies of ancient Scottish examples. They bear inscriptions in runic or Icelandic characters, and their ornamentation and even general design differ from those of the brooches found in Ireland.
