: "Altmark" was supply ship for the German cruiser raider "Graf Spee". It was also used as a prison to hold merchant seamen from ships "Graf Spee" had sunk. While "Altmark" was in neutral Norwegian waters, a British destroyer attacked her and freed the captives. The Germans regarded this attack as piracy. Note 2.) Picture caption: "Der scwerverletzte Maschinenassistant der "Altmark", Wilhelm Richert, wurde in einem Sonderflugzeug nach Berlin geschafft und schilderte hier vor der Weltpresse den Ablauf des englischen Verbrechens."
