: German bombers targeted docks, wharves and warehouses in London at the start of what the British called "the Blitz". The blazes were made more intense by stores of sugar and molasses catching fire and flowing into the Thames river. Note 2.) Picture caption: "Sie trafen mitten ins Herz des Empire.
