: Picture caption: "In die Städte der Westmark kehrte in diesen Tagen die Zivilbevölkerung zurück, die bei Kriegsbeginn Aufnahme im Reich gefunden hatte. Die Begrüßung dieser Heimkehrer war gleichzeitig eine Stunde des Dankes an Führer und Wehrmacht." Note 2.) The Westmark was a Gau (administrative division) created from territory west of the river Rhine, some of which was traditionally French. Here, people who lived there (and were trapped in Germany when war broke out) return home. Note 3.) Title translates German picture caption
