: Charles Griffes, after 4 years of studying piano and composition in Berlin, Germany, attained the position of Director of Music at the Hackley School for Boys, Tarrytown, N.Y., a position he held from 1907 until his untimely death, at age 36, in 1920. Note 2.) National Endowment for the Arts Millennium Project. Note 3.) Treasures of the American Performing Arts, 1875-1923 Note 4.) Two unidentified young men playing baseball, one at bat, the other catching; onlookers in background.
