Production Notes

: Titled The Jazz King in its pre-Broadway version, this play with two songs was written by Herbert Fields, Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart who used the pseudonym Herbert Richard Lorenz. It began touring in March 1924, played at the Ritz Theatre May 13-31, 1924, and at the 49th Street Theatre June 2-28, 1924. The 1930 film of the same title had a completely different plot and cast, and lacked Rodgers' music.
