Opened April 19, 1945 at the Majestic Theater and ran 890 performances, closing on May 24, 1947. The original cast featured John Raitt as Billy Bigelow, Jan Clayton as Julie, Jean Darling as Carrie and Eric Mattson as Mr. Snow. Based on the Hungarian play Liliom by Ferenc Molnar, Rodgers and Hammerstein reset the musical in New England.
