"Copper plates for a number of maps made originally by Jodocus Hondius Jr. were purchased by [W.J.] Blaeu in 1629 and the imprints altered to reflect the new ownership" --Verner, Smith's Virginia and its derivatives. Note 2.) Appears in Willem Blaeu's Atlantis appendix. Possibly from his Le Thhbtre dv monde. Note 3.) Cartouches: title at top center; scale and publisher statement at bottom center; "Notarum explicatio" above Indian figure. Note 4.) Inset ill.: "Status Regis Powhatan" in upper left corner. Note 5.)
