: Picture caption: "Die Heimkehr der deutschen Volksgruppen, die mit den Balten begann, war noch nicht beendet. 45 000 Deutsche aus Beßarabien, die 1814 die Heimat verließen, kehrten nun in das große Reich zurück. Im Auffanglager Galatz warteten sie in ihren Wagenreihen auf den Abtransport mit Donaudampfern." Note 2.) Now split between Moldova and Ukraine, the area on the Black Sea called Bessarabia was part of Rumania when this photo was taken. Germans had begun settling there in the early 1800s. A main point of Nazi ideology was the return of all ethnic Germans to a "Greater Reich". Note 3.) Title translates German picture caption
